Paternal Centers of Excellence
4Kira4Dads Paternal Centers of Excellence (PCOE) is bringing a third pillar of the maternal health ecosystem to the forefront. It’s time to bring a focus to paternal education and well-being, to build the capacity and capabilities of men so that they can be of service and advocate for mother and child. Paternal Centers of Excellence (PCOE) will educate, guide, and support men who are married to, are partners with, or love Black women as they navigate throughout their pregnancy, birth, and post-partum experiences. We believe by arming men and partners of Black mothers with the tools provided by the Paternal Centers of Excellence, Black mothers’ lives will be saved, thus aiding in the eradication of preventable Black U.S. maternal mortality.

4Kira4Dads “Locker Rooms” will be the settings for our Paternal Centers of Excellence.
Our virtual and physical locations will provide both aspiring and expecting fathers with resource and support hubs designed to provide:
Awareness & Training
Utilizing expertly designed team curriculum, all participants will learn and train on paternal pregnancy playbooks:
• Individual learning plans that cover the important topics, concerns, and risks associated with each phase of the pregnancy journey:
• Through these playbooks, dads will have the opportunity to become educated in maternal health and to role play the various hurdles and outcomes of pregnancy/birth.
Healing Networks
Curated safe spaces focused on paternal health and mental well-being so that fathers have more capacity, understanding, and support to be in service of mothers throughout the journey of pregnancy.
• Discussion modules that coincide with the playbooks, designed to encourage, and promote tough and taboo discussions often associated with pregnancy and childbirth.
• “Veteran” and experienced dads will serve as coaches to aspiring and expecting fathers to take them through the “ropes to skip, ropes to know” about pregnancy including topics such as miscarriage, near miss, loss, and postpartum depression.
• Mentoring both during and after graduation from the PCOE will be offered.
Agency & Advocacy
Empowering men to be the advocate in the birthing room to support mom and child and improve maternal outcomes.
• Healthcare professionals and maternal health advocates will be a part of the curriculum to interact and answer 1:1 question for our dads.
• Each dad will create their own Birthing Day Plan to encompass an advocacy plan.
